Previously before I fully switched to HA, I used to have an Arlo doorbell that when you pressed the doorbell button, it would essentially create a call my phone that you could answer like any incoming phone call. I’ve since ditched that doorbell since it wasn’t very HA friendly.
I was tinkering with my doorbell notification automation over the weekend and I was thinking it would be pretty neat if HA could also create calls like the Arlo app could. I do wonder if such a notification type is restricted by Apple, tho?
Oh yeah, I’m using two way audio via go2rtc, but currently that involves having a notification that opens up into a dashboard page where I can activate the microphone on my device to talk to whoever is at the door.
The Arlo way where the notification behaved like a phone call was much more elegant and made sense for something like someone pressing a doorbell button (or any intercom button I guess).
