WTH: Allow GJ (Gigajoule) as a long term statistic

As the author of 2 city heater meter custom components, I don’t understand why GJ (Gigajoule) is not allowed as a long-term statistic and I would like it to be added. This would allow tracking of long-term energy usage.

Even better, but I understand this is a lot more to ask, would be that the energy dashboard would get support for such meters instead (or maybe next to) how gas is supported.

I’ve seen people using a template sensor to convert the GJ value to m3 to integrate city heating into the energy dashboard. But in my opinion, this isn’t the right way  (see for example Integration in Energy dashboard · Issue #21 · golles/ha-kamstrup_403 · GitHub for examples)

Thanks!

I’m all ears for this idea!

I totally agree with this. Should be an easy fix to add GJ to the energy dashboard long-term statistics.

Great suggestion. This will also allow Landis+Gyr Heat Meter - Home Assistant to show GJ usage on the energy dashboard.

The PR listed above has been merged and will be part of the Home Assistant Core 2022.11 release.
