WTH are "Floorplan" cards so hard to build and maintain?

There are some epic “floorplan” type cards people build. I’m happy with mine (first image).

The Picture elements card editor (second image) and docs page even “teases you” with what is possible.

But there is no visual editor for adding and placing elements, and so set-up/config is a bit of a hassle.

Element selection assistance via a visual editor and drag and drop style placement of elements is the kind of things that could really help streamline the process. Precisely placing lots of elements via yaml is pretty painful.

And perhaps the docs page could even point to resources for creating floorplans?

In fact perhaps “floorplan” warrent’s it’s own card, perhaps tied in with areas somehow etc.

Any more ideas anyone?

Fair enough, and that looks pretty cool but I still reckon that a bit of love for the picture elements card could go a long way…

Exactly this . This is precisely the topic of this WTH…

Could not agree more. I created mine a while ago and am very frustrated about not being able to use it on my phone.

A common theme with a lot of the WTHs is people flagging innovative solutions built by people in custom components, cards, blueprints etc which might be worth making native features in HA.

But the spirit of WTH is “lighter touch” ones. In that sense, I think some relatively minor upgrades to picture elements usability could go a long way…

Rotate images and change the size of badges would be nice too.
