We have a nice dashboard showing all the energy usage however we do not have an intelligent way of controlling all the elements consuming or producing energy.
In my house I have PV solar, batteries for local storage, heat pump and a BEV (Battery Electrical vehicle).
Additionally we even know the actual cost of the consumption, so can we have an intelligent way of optimizing the energy usage?

All of the power of the automation editor is at your disposal.
Home Assistant provides the automation tools and you write the automation to do what you want, or let others do it for you by searching the blueprint exchange.

We have all the necessary components to create a more efficient home. We can monitor the power usage of all devices, access weather forecasts, and view grid prices and control device like thermostats, heaters and EV charging stations. Why don’t we have a machine learning network that can optimize when to turn on the heater (preheat) when the price is low and when cold weather is approaching? We can also turn on the water heater when the price is low and based on usage.
Could we simply use GitHu…
Home assistant has solved the problems around integrating different kind of systems and displaying/interacting with the data. I would love to see Home assistant starting to solve some of the “business cases” around smart home.
One reason for getting a smart thermostat is to save energy. But what is the best way to actually save energy/cost?
Home assistant already have information regarding energy prices today and tomorrow, room size, temperature and power. The dream would be to input at what t…
I think the general sentiment is right HA could do more in this direction. Things seem to be going that way though.
And there are custom components or there that try to do it as well. I’m not using any, but for example EMHASS seems to be very popular:
Dear community!
I have created a new project called EMHASS, written in Python, to implement an optimized energy management for a household and with easy integration to Home Assistant. The main contribution of this project is that the energy management strategy is… well… optimized! I’ve done this using a real mathematical optimization technique called Linear Programming.
The main use case for this project will be for someone who has installed some PV solar panels in his house and is already usi…
