It would be fantastic to have the ability to make badges, as well as other parts of the interface, blink when certain conditions occur.
For example, reaching a specific temperature, liquid level, an alarm, or the opening of a gate.
I know there are external solutions with mods, but they are, as always, complicated to program.
Blinking is merely ONE of possible animations. And like any animation it has several parameters.
And conditional blinking may depend on various of possible types of conditions.
I do not think that hard-coding worth it; just increased complexity with limited functionality.
Instead - suggest you to invest some personal time to learning card-mod (and there are plenty of examples and tutorials, so it is a matter of laziness).
I have been using Home Assistant for 6 years. I am not a programmer, but I have always managed to get by.
Over these 6 years, I have seen it evolve from a system for tech enthusiasts with programming skills to one accessible to a wider audience.
A clear example of this is the ease with which we can now create an automation, compared to when it had to be written line by line.
This evolution seems to reflect the intention of the project founders to make it accessible to those who don’t know how to program or, as you put it, to those who are lazy.
I don’t believe Home Assistant wants to remain a product only for tech enthusiasts.
Dismissing a request for an implementation as lazy undermines the purpose of the WTH month. I’m sorry you see it that way.
Moreover, I avoid using mods or HACS materials whenever possible, though it’s not always feasible, because HA now completely manages my home.
For security reasons, I prefer code reviewed by the official team.
