WTH can't I change the domain type of a light?

I have had an electrician install some Zigbee dimmer pucks (FWIW, these ones Oz Smart Zigbee Dimmer Switch, Smart Home Automation Switch Australia) behind all the switch plates in our house. They are identified in HA as Sunricher light dimmers.

In the bathrooms and laundry, some of the units control the in-ceiling exhaust fans. Rather than the entities being named light.bathroom_fan and switched as a light, I would like them to be fan.bathroom_fan and controlled as a fan.

Switches can be changed to various domain types, including fan. Would be great if the same flexibility applied to units identified as lights, as these sorts of pucks could be used to control many different items.

Yikes. Probably because light dimmers aren’t rated to control inductive loads like fans. You should check this ASAP.

From what I’ve read, this being also a two wire, trailing edge dimmer, it is outright dangerous.

My electric made sure the switch and fans were compatible.

Not really the point of the request, which is to be able to change the domain of an entity identified as a light.

I’d get a second opinion on that. There is very sparse information on that device and I’d wager that the rating shown is only for resistive loads.

This is the reason why:

Then get another sparky if that’s really a dimmer it can cause a fire in fact I’d disable that circuit or remove the dimmer immediately.

Fan controllers and dimmers are NOT the same.

For info:

As long as the dimmer is categorically suitable for fans then that’s ok otherwise be aware of the risks.

Obviously this doesn’t answer OP original question.
