We can have Apple Watch complications with data points, why are widgets (home screen widgets, not Today View widgets) limited to buttons with static text?
I would vote for this 100 times if I could 
I’ve had to manually write a widget using Scriptable.
My use case:
I would like to view the state of particular entities at a glance:
- My solar power generation
- My backup battery’s charge percentage
- My house’s power usage
- The percentage I’m independent from the grid today
