WTH can't we use NFC tags like old Disney Infinity figurines?

There’s a lot of NFC tags out there, which could trigger an action by their hard coded ID instead of the HA generated tag ID.

You can do this already using Tasker if you have Android.
Tasker has a Home Assistant plugin available so you scan the NFC, Tasker reads it and can triggers the assigned switches, scripts, automations etc as set in the Tasker Task

It also means that others (without HA) can use the same NFC for something else if they prefer.

I’ve found it to be a bit buggy sometimes, but that’s on Tasker, not HA.

I think Olwin wants it built into the HA not a third party solution. I second this idea

That’s true, I’m talking about a full HA integration.

There are enough kludges out there already, I’d want to reduce them rather than introduce new ones.

This could be a choice when adding a tag like this:

Option 1: The old method with writing an ID to the tag

Option 2: Read-only method where it reads the UID of the Tag and uses that as Tag ID

Bumping an old thread here, but I can’t see that there is any solution to this right now?
Are only writable NFC tags working with HA?
It should be possible to create an automation even if you don’t write to it, it already has an address programmed.
