WTH - Companion app, update frequency. Location/Zones related

So in the Apps and sensors I have noticed you can enable high accuracy mode for within Zones. It would be nice to have the opposite because you might be tracking a device getting to a Zone. But when it’s in a Zone you don’t want regular updates. This might be a good feature.

Or even better have an option so that when a device is within the “Home” zone or a specified one, that app updates are reduced to a minimum or only once leaving Home zone do they continue.

I notice a lot of battery use, and when devices are “Home” what is the point in regular rapid updates? For us it serves no purpose. So it would be nice to have some features along this line so that when a device is within a Zone, drop the update frequency, and outside increase it.

For example for tracking a journey i’d want 2-3s updates on a route for accurate tracking and time. but when the device has arrived at Work/Home etc We don’t really need regular rapid fast updates most of the day.

Still trying to get a balance of battery use/updates for the tracking is difficult to optimise efficiency.

Following up on this one.

As mentioned above, if a user is in the Home zone or another specified. It would be nice to reduce the battery drain on devices.

For example i’m based at home… Look how many flipping updates/pings back its done in 39 hours since i last left here. it really drains the device batteries on phones for no purpose. But leaving home then it can be beneficial to update more rapidly for journey and location tracking.

you want to use Zone Expanded feature: https://companion.home-assistant.io/docs/core/location#zone-when-using-the-high-accuracy-mode-trigger-range-for-zone-meters-option-value-greater-than-0

the standard tracking the app does is every few minute which does not have that much of a drain we also use battery optimized setting. Check location tracking history to see the actual amount of updates received you will see it is less than expected unless high accuracy was left on indefinitely in a zone.

Battery drain issues can be troubleshooted following: https://companion.home-assistant.io/docs/troubleshooting/faqs#android-app-battery-drain

Have you changed the reported accuracy setting for the sensor? With that much flip flopping you may want to lower the number if you raised it. Was high accuracy on the entire time?
