I see a lot of confusions and also a lot of integrations to do device tracker but at the end, there is no a clear view of the way it’s managed.
I’m using synology DRM integration where it’s great to manage via known_devices.yaml. That’s no so bad to continue. But you have also device tracker coming from companion app or other sources where you need to manage in other ways.
On another HA instance, I’m using NMAP but this one have PR to have better exclude since long time without solutions. Also the way to manage entities, it’s not the same approach. There is no exclude (via mac) available for instance. Nmap is putting all the datas discovered on UI.
Also Bluetooth give a lot of new possibilities to get device tracker and room presence tracking.
I would suggest to do some exercices to get a good way to handle those cases of managing device tracker and room presence tracking.
I’m thinking also about Matter and what this will bring in this area.
I don’t have much examples but I’m pretty sure the community have some cases also
