WTH does closing a dialog/pop-up take me back in browser history?

This one has bothered me for years and I’m sure there is a very simple solution, but here goes.

  1. I open a new, blank, tab in my brower on my laptop.
  2. I navigate to my HA instance.
  3. I click an item in a dashboard. Let’s say a light for the sake of argument. A pop-up opens.
  4. I close the pop-up by using the x-mark, or clicking outside the pop-up, or hitting the escape key.
  5. I’m automatically navigated to the blank tab and have to repeat step (2) again.

Please, WHY is this? :sob: Can someone let me know how to circumvent this?
