This would be great if there was an affiliate link to putchase products in the integration doucmentation - then Nabu Casa could generate some additional revenue to support development (perhaps a fund to purchase hardware for the team to test and improve integrations).
This would probably need to be well signposted and also since anybody can edit the docs, there needs to be some way to prevent changing the affiliate link by anybody.
Anyway not a user facing WTH but it could be a nice way to help Nabu Casa.
I disagree. First off I think Amazon would be the only place where this is possible (world wide) and I don’t like Amazon for several reasons.
Second people would be mislead into thinking this would be a good deal while it might not be the best deal.
Also the maintenance of these links if they run out of stock or if a product get discontinued by the seller is a pain.
I like the thought, but I think it would be a maintenance nightmare, especially trying to cater for worldwide users.
Once the “Works with Home Assistant” branding gets rolling out widely I’m sure these devices will be listed somewhere (if there isn’t already something?) Maybe Nabu Casa can do some selected deals on these.
Yes I agree with your points @frits1980 and @geejayem it will be difficult to manage affiliate links which expire.
my guess is that there may be a solution out there to track affiliate links to see if they are working or not and automatically remove them if they expire - but I havent looked into it.
as for Amazon - I thought that Bazos needed more yachts! But more seriously, yes there are good reasons to dislike Amazon’s business practices.
On the good deal or not - if the link is noted as an affiliate link then I am sure that most HA users will be astute enough to realise that there are other ways to buy the products.
Perhaps part of the Works with HA could include “coupon codes” if you buy directly through the supplier - however this will imply a discount for the buyer too though.
Anyhow - probably more of a Nabu Casa suggestion than a HA suggestion.
