I actually agree.
It makes it hard to remember which version (plural or not) needs to be used on different spots.
At least it would be better for consistency.
But I doubt it will get changed at this point since it would be a HUGE breaking change no matter which way it was changed.
It would be possible to accept both, and create new ones using conditions:
Nightmare for documentation though.
All three main sections of the automation are singular: trigger

and action
and all expect a list in which multiple items can be added
