The usefulness of select and number template entities would be greatly increased if they would restore state on template reload or HA restart.
Now you basically need an input_select to store the state of a select.
If select and number template entities would restore state, they could completely replace the use of an input_select/input_number and an automation
Even if you create a trigger based select (didn’t test number) it doesn’t restore state, like a trigger based template sensor does.
