Wakeword support in the official app was supposed to be “coming soon” for over a year. In that time multiple community driven projects have started to try to solve this problem with hacky workarounds using 3rd party software. Dedicated hardware is great except most HA users already have mobile devices and dashboards setup in their homes and don’t need yet another single-purpose piece of disposable electronics in their homes.
would love for wake word support on a wall mounted tablet as well!
I wonder why this does not get much more attention?
I mean it is nice to have dedicated devices for this but I think that should not have a higher priority then wakeword on mobile devices.
Everybody would instantly be able to have a proper voice assistant without buying unnecessary additional hardware.
Fwiw there is now a method for running wyoming satellite and openwakeword on android via termux.
It’s still reliant on a 3rd party app and it bypasses the companion app entirely, but it’s very stable and as close to an official method as you can get right now.
