The first letter of the states of a climate entity is always uppercase in the frontend, regardless of the translation in Lokalise. For example, in Polish, states should be written in lowercase and we cannot get a grammatically correct translation.
I have all lower case on my climate states…
Am I missing something?
By the way, don’t forget to vote in your own WTH.
Yes, states are in lowercase, I did not describe it correctly, they are displayed with capitalization on cards/frontend. I will update the description in the OP.
BTW, in States
there are no translated states, only the original ones.
The description looks more clear now, thanks.
I bet this is a translation issue. It should always respect the language rules, and this can change a lot. But translation can be challenging as sometimes you have to translate a word or expression with no clue on how it will be used.
Maybe you can try to contribute towards a solution:
This is not a translation problem, you can see in the screenshot that Polish strings in Lokalise start with a lowercase letter.
I have been translating HA since translation is possible and the problem persists from the very beginning.
Yeah the frontend is capitalizing the value via CSS. This looks nice in English where capitalizing the first word of a fragment is fairly normal, but could be a problem for other languages that don’t follow English style capitalization conventions.
It is specifically doing:
.state-label {
font-weight: bold;
text-transform: capitalize;
}
If this is grammatically problematic in other languages then it is arguably a localization bug in the front end. It might be best to file a bug report there, so it does not get buried over here in the WTF forum.
I opened an issue in the frontend repository Lowercase is not respected for climate entity states in the frontend · Issue #14109 · home-assistant/frontend · GitHub
