WTH - Re-trigger "Discovered devices"

Occasionally Home assistant will discover new devices, sometimes I’ve by mistake ignored or something has happened where it’s gone. I’d love a little “Re-discover” devices button on the settings - Devices and services page. You could just click it and HA re-run a search for all network devices that may not have been added.

You can see “Disabled by filtering and ignored”. However for some reason a recent one by an integration didn’t show under either of these so maybe some sort or re-discover button could be good. I know this is definitely the case after recently adding an integration, it discovered 4 devices, but as i wasn’t sure on how it added them i ignored one to begin with until i could further check it out. Then i couldn’t get it to show agian. I imagine the only way would be completely removing the integration and starting from scratch again.

Ok so if it is not here:

Then restarting HA should set off discovery again. So should just waiting.

No those didn’t work I’m afraid. That is what I was referring to above where sometimes things don’t re-show up that way.

It just didn’t show up agian for an integration so i just had to guess the name and have it locate it.

That means retriggering discovery, it wouldn’t find the device anyways. Discovery is always searching and things persist if they are still discovered. That’s why ignore is an option. So if it’s not in your ignore or disabled list, HA isn’t discovering it.

Typically between all the discovery methods, bluetooth is the only one that ends up disappearing from discovery. ssdp, dhcp, and zero_config are pretty persistent if your network is good.

Strange it found it the first time. It was that new powercalc integration you suggested. It found the 3 Phillips Hue bulbs and a couple of other devices P100 etc, 1 I dismissed by mistake. It just didn’t re-locate it and they were not under either of those options.

I’ve not done anything with these 2. I added 2 Hue bulbs that were listed. then i just had to guess the name for the one i dismissed.

Interesting just tagging on to your reply just now above, the bulbs i have under Zigbee could that be why perhaps?

These are the two I’ve not done anything with and they still show. perhaps it’s just a quirk as the one i cancelled setup was Zigbee

It depends on what method powercalc uses to discover. As mentioned above, there is multiple ways. That’s also a custom integration, they could be doing stupid things with their discovery as well.

Ah that makes sense, thanks so much for those points and explanations and ones that may not re-show up. Super helpful!

Yeah, best to contact the developer about this.
