I have a process to create a sensoir that I can manually update.
- Create a number entry; and
- Create a template sensor that is set by this number entry
I am using it for daily manual meter readings (as I don’t have automatic
sensors doing this yet), as well as other manual measurements.

This needs to be easier to setup.
This allows home assistant users to start making use of their Home Assistant to gain insight about their home without having to install any other hardware. (This can still be done at a later time).
There are also some subtleties involved where it could be better to choose a
number template that can decrease (rather than a monotonically increasing meter reading) so that corrections can be made.
