A lot of the key pages feel a little too “hidden away” within the Settings menu. E.g. the following tasks are very common as a tinkerer, but require several clicks to get to. You also have to remember which page contains the sub-tab you’re interested in.
- Managing devices (Settings → Devices & Services → Devices)
- Managing entities / helpers (Settings → Devices & Services → Entities / Helpers)
- Working with automations (Settings → Automations & Scenes)
- Working with scenes (Settings → Automations & Scenes → Scenes)
The command palette is nice and speeds things up but isn’t the most discoverable when you get started.
The Custom panel integration can be used to add shortcuts to these pages on the sidebar which is also handy, but the sidebar quickly gets a bit messy as it it has no real structure and is barely customisable.
I see that there are already various posts about the sidebar (e.g. persistence of sidebar ordering etc) but I think on top of that, the high level navigation could be improved so that the most commonly used functions are front & centre by default
