A ZWave cover for tilt blinds that can only have its slat’s tilt position changed is today always considered to have “unknown” state regardless of the position of the slat’s angle.
More than a year ago HA dropped support of state (open/close) for ZWave based iBlinds cover. The state is always “unknown”. Before this, the iBlinds always had an open/close state based on its tilt position.
I have other tilt only blinds that are MQTT based and these blinds can have their state defined based on tilt position. So in my home, I end up with identical looking tilt blinds that have a mix; Some with states open/close and some unknown.
I should mention that the UI does recognize that the iBlind cover has state (other than unknown) through its icon. When the slat’s tilt position is 0, a icon is shown in one state, and when the tilt position is non-zero, the icon is shown in another state.
My only solution at the moment is a “hack” that tries to force the HA state of the iBlinds based on its tilt position to be open/close. WTH? This should be something HA does.
As an FYI, there is an open architecture discussion on the topic of covers here. This topic is still categorized as “unanswered”. There are several other threads with discussions and suggestions but to date AFAIK none have come to a conclusion.
