The one automation that almost every home has is a programmable HVAC system - yet this is still one of the things in HA that is very challenging - especially for new users.
We have a generic thermostat and now have schedules, all* that is missing is a user friendly way to link them both together and to add the ‘normal’ extras to the thermostat (like ‘boost’ or ‘advance’) and make schedules editable from within the thermostat.
I am newb to HA and have been having a nightmare trying to get anything to work, main one being heating schedule.
I created a schedule in the helper section, I cant see how to add it to an automation. And I can’t see how to add an action to the helper. And when I can set up an automation, the only entity for my thermostat that I can select is Battery_state wth?
I can’t get a template I downloaded to work either.
It seems like my install is really borked but I’ve been through logs and can’t see anything that screams out.
I have my HA in a qemu VM when I set it up following a guide it was a very old version so I updated it repeatedly to current I suspect this is the cause of my issues but Idk logs look ok.
Both of those sound like they stem from using Device-based components. Since Schedule helpers are not attached to a device you need to use State triggers and conditions.
What do you mean by that? The schedule integration only supports a reload action.
I agree that the requirement to build intelligence into the thermostat with automations is just far harder than is required.
A simple thermostat should be able to be set to different temperatures at different times of day without additional coding.
Being able to then extend that with automations to get clever related to other data in HA is then a bonus for those that can work out how
