WTH, we lack core cards refresh to be consistent with "new Tile design", or at least a theme

It seems that Tile design is the new standard, and being an long time mushroom fan, I am happy with it.

But if somebody wants to create a dashboard from scratch, some classical cards do not have a consistent look.

A “Tile theme”, “Tile look” or “New design” option (tick box?) to use same font, size, icon and color as the Tile card for the good old core cards, especially:

  • sensor cards
  • button cards
  • gauge cards
  • weather card

This would allow them to be blended into the new style of the new cards, and allow new users to create consistent dashboards with more option than only tiles and heading.

There are many custom option for this. But classical core cards deserve a refresh to be consistent with the “new” cards: tile and heading

Even the official demo makes very limited use of the sensor cards to limit the inconsistency feeling (only once, and it exhibits different font, size, colors, icon):

If you start to add buttons, gauges, or weather forecast it is starting to look like a mess. Some tricks help reduce the inconsistencies (removing icon in sensor, removing current weather in weather) but they do not allow to have a real consistency.

Well, what if some users do not accept mushroom-like design?
There should be a choice.

Any frontend devs interested in refreshing the cards should join the dashboard working group. :grinning:

Fully agree ! That was my proposition !

On the other end, the new default dashboard seems to move towards Tiles and sections. thus I think that to continue the development toward a consistent design, there should be at least a button card and a sensor card consistent with this new default design.

The link to the form to sign up does not work

Maybe an alternative could be to propose to users a set of themes:

  • “legacy theme” with the current design
  • “tiles theme” allowing to have consistent font / sizes / colors for the “classical core cards” to blend them with heading and tiles cards…

The choice of the “default theme” would be subject to discussions… but could be easily changed, especially if a “theme” UI is created one day like requested here: WTH cant we customize themes in the UI?

Another side effect of consistent look: using smaller fonts (like in the tile card) could also allow to define smaller minimum size to allow different positioning in “precise mode” of the grid. For example, for the time being, it is not possible to put 3 sensor cards on a line (minimum sensor size is half of a section), but with smaller fonts, it should be…
