WTH, why can’t I add historical data to the Energy Dashboard?

The Energy Dashboard in Home Assistant is amazing for tracking energy, gas, and water usage. But… WTH, why can’t I add historical data from before I started monitoring?

Right now, I can download the usage data file (great!), but I can’t edit it or re-import it after adding missing data from previous days, months, or even years. It would be so useful if we could edit that file and upload it back, letting the dashboard include the additional data in its stats. This way, we’d have a complete picture of our consumption in one place without needing to jump between Home Assistant and spreadsheets.

Why isn’t this a thing? :man_shrugging: Am I the only one frustrated by this, or do others see the potential here too?

I hear you! It’s frustrating that the Home Assistant Energy Dashboard doesn’t currently support adding historical data retrospectively. Many users have expressed similar concerns and would love to see this feature implemented2. Being able to edit and re-import usage data from previous days, months, or even years would indeed provide a more complete picture of consumption without the need to jump between different tools my Wellstar mychart

It seems like a valuable addition that could benefit many users, so hopefully, it’s something the developers will consider in future updates.

Spook have a import utility: Recorder - Spook 👻 a scary powerful toolbox for Home Assistant.

HACS → Import statistics

I dont find any component. Maybe It IS a custom repository?

Yep… I have a 2 day gap in my energy statistics because my inverter was offline. There needs to be a simple, UI based way to add some stats - I could either choose to find a way to spread this data out into the pre-defined 5 minute blocks, or maybe I just want to add a single entry to cover the whole day - but it needs to be simple, and I don’t want to have to export everything, muck around in Excel, and import everything back in.

This is something that has been raised a lot and that I also faced, without being able to find an easy workaround.

For me, to import the statistics, I believe the best way would be to upload a *.xls or *.csv file, map the columns to the HA fields and there we go, bamm, all data imported.

Let’s keep in mind that not all users have the data structured in the same way, as we are coming from many different providers, but having basic data imported and matched… I guess that should not be so overly complicated.

Everything else, even Spook import, at least for me, seems undocumented or quite dubious to even try on a live HA instance.

Here is my initial 2-cents on this:
