WTH Why can't we have a timer that goes up on automation start

It would be great to start a timer going up in seconds and then minutes, hours, days, weeks, etc until we stop it.

Eg start timer if boiler kicks in, so we can timer it

Also, if we could make a day cumulative timer, eg it comes on 5am to 6am and 7pm to 8pm but it shows 2 hours for the day.

This is covered by History Stats sensors.

Think I maybe explained the 2nd part wrong.

It wouldn’t be a timer, it would add the hours up, the entity had been running
