Xiaomi air purifier 4 pro region unlock?

So after reading pages and pages of recommendations in the HA forums about the xiaomi air purifier line, I ended up buying one via aliexpress. I’m trying to get it into home assistant, and from what I can tell, I need to add it to the android app first and get an auth token, then hand that to HA via an integration.

Then hangup is that when I try to add it to the android app, it basically says its region locked. The app refuses to let me add the air purifier because it says its only authorized for use in mainland china.

has anyone else come across this issue? Any tips?

(who the hell region locks an air purifier?!)

Ok, I was able to get past this.
I had to use a GPS spoofer to tell my phone it was in shanghai, I had to manually set the timezone and time to shanghais, and I had to clear the app data fro the mi home app and when I set it up i had to tell it I was in mainland china.
