HI mate, thanks for the write up, any chance i could get those tips too, please.
this was really helpful
I’m struggling with one of these. Initial install went well a few weeks ago and it worked well for a month or so. Recently it got stuck on ‘detected’ so I removed from HA and the Xiaomi app. Since then I’ve reset and added it multiple times and each time it’s picked up some but not all the sensors even when left for a couple of hours afterwards. Have tried a new battery but that hasn’t helped. Ideas?
it sounds like there are interference sources in the room, like blowing curtain, opening window with cold/warm wind.
please take a look at the link I provided above to tune the installation position/orientation.
also, the new ota firmware supports auto-scan interference source in its geek mode. you can also have a try.
It seems occupancy is not updating it’s status correctly. For example, status is clear but when i go into the room it does not update status to detected. Vice versa from detected to clear. I have tried a lot of trial and error like adjusting it’s sensitivity, changing location of presence sensor, restarting HA, removing presence sensor and adding back on both Mi Home application and HA. I have tried resetting presence sensor yet issue still persist. I have read tips on placing at the recommended location yet I still could not get occupancy to show correctly even if it’s an empty room it’s still the same. When status shows it’s detected it seems it will stuck at detected and duration detected shows 5 mins. Spent the whole day troubleshooting and it’s frustrating. Anyone have any idea how can I get occupancy to show correctly? Or am I just unlucky I got a faulty presence sensor?
Happened with me and I ended up returning it for a full refund. This unit is not a good quality, lots and lots of false or no detection.
I bought a ZigBee Battery one from few shops and two of them ended up great. It keeps the presence even when I am not moving using mmWave(Radar) only option.
Thanks @ldfandian!
For me the culprit ended up being the bluetooth proxies. Sensor works fine but the advertisements are really kept lean - you need either a proxy with a dedicated bluetooth antenna (eg. ethernet connected) or a lot of proxies.
I have disabled bluetooth gateway support in my light switch shelly’s the day before and then I started experiencing issues - basically the sensor sent an update but none of the other proxies picked it up. It doesn’t help that the sensor doesn’t repeat messages so eg. even if the time occupied later updates the detected status remains unchanged (stuck on clear).
Enabling the bluetooth gateway on the shelly’s resolved the issue and the updates are being picked up reliably again.
Can anybody please send here the user manual? I need to send it to customs to release it
Does anyone else have trouble with the sensor?
This is the second time this week that the sensor’s state in Home Assistant gets stuck. In the Xiaomi app, it works fine, but in Home Assistant, it remains blocked and shows the room as empty.
The sensor only starts working again after I restart Home Assistant.
In this case, try move your bluetooth proxy device closer to the sensor?
Sounds like it is probably a weak signal issue?
user manual for what? does the link I provided above help?
would you like to share the details about what you have tried? can you take a look at the installation tips like above? AFAIK, this is the first mmWave presence sensor with multiple years’ lifetime and being powered by a single button cell only.
can you take a look at the sensor status in mi home app, to check whether it is an issue about the sensor itself or that of the HA bluetooth proxy device?
Presence sensor appears normally on mi home. It says ‘not connected’ because I’m using ESP32 bluetooth proxy and not using xiaomi hub. Signal strength between presence sensor and bluetooth proxy is good.
Can you try OTA update to the latest firmware? There might be some interference sources in the space that is hard to be excluded. In this case, the new interference sources auto-scan functionality of geek mode (only supported by the latest firmware) helps a lot.
I have tried geek mode and did interference source scan but still unable to resolve issue. I have already updated to the latest firmware and it’s still the same.
I gave up troubleshooting. To those considering buying this I 100% wouldn’t recommend. A lot of issues that is not worth your time. IMHO worth changing battery every 6 months with tuya presence sensor than having 3 years of battery life with poor functionality and tons of issues with this xiaomi presence sensor.
Sorry to hear that. I just don’t encounter any problem with it~
(btw, this sensor has been sold for far more than one hundred thousand units in China, with good customer feedback.)
