I have a pair of Xiaomi Mi Window/Door sensors. Originally they were part of a package that came with the Xiaomi Mi Gateway, originally it worked, but after having to get a new phone, the gateway no longer works.
I’ve spend almost a full year working on this gateway, but it appears its linked to my account and wont let me reset it without removing it from my app. However I can’t remove it from my app because I can’t see it in my app. Catch-22. Any mention of holding down the button to factory reset it wont work. The light never turns yellow no matter how long I hold the button. 5seconds, 10 seconds, 2 minutes. I even clocked myself holding it at 5 min with no luck.
So my question is, can I use the Xiaomi Mi Widow and door sensors with another gateway? I was under the impression that Mi devices only work together, but Im hoping after a year someone has found a way around it.
You could give Zigbee2MQTT a try. It replaces a lot of zigbee hubs with one piece of hardware. If you’re running hass.io you can install the zigmee2mqtt addon and all your xiaomi mi devices should work.
So, in a fluke of testing. I got it working. I unplugged my modem, and left it unplugged. While That was off, I tried it again to see what would happen if I tried communication with the hub with my phone.
it allowed the reset!
After some searching online, I figured out what my issue was. This hub is cloud based and communicates with servers in China. I had to kill that communication first, before I could reset it.
