Xiaomi Wifi plug - problem getting token

I own one Xiaomi Wifi plug (the one that looks exactly like their zigbee plug). It works fine with the Mi Home app but I would like to be able to control it from HA.

I follow the instruction Retrieving the Access Token as stated in the Components instructions. As I am on Windows I run the instruction to download the MiToolkit.zip to get the token that way (even if it seems more target towards the Vacuum robot).

When running the MiToolkit windows app I get the prompt to not set a password on the backup, after that I get a popup “There seems to be an error with the backup, it is way too small”.

Anyone got this error before or can advise on other ways to get the token?

My phone is an unrooted Xiaomi Mix 2.

Please take a look at https://python-miio.readthedocs.io/en/latest/discovery.html#tokens-from-backups if that works on Windows too. From the looks of it the backup is not created, did you confirm to allow it on your phone?

Sometimes the the Mi Home app popped up (to fullscreen) on my phone, but there was never any questions/prompt to confirm a backup.

I will try to get time to check the alternative method in the link later today.

Same issue as nikno. Using xiaomi mi max 2.
