Yale Access Bluetooth offline key (Z-Wave version)

I bought a Yale Access Z-Wave device and this one has a fingerprint reader. I wanted to avoid using the Yale app, and noticed there’s a Yale Access Bluetooth integration.

Upon trying to get my lock into the Yale integration, I found I need an Offline Key.

It’s not clear what you need to do here:

  1. Do I have to install the Yale app first before getting the offline key or is it listed on the device?
  2. It says for Android, you need root access. It says this in passing, but isn’t getting root access extremely difficult? Pretty sure I need to somehow bypass Knox on my Samsung phone, and it’s a whole thing.
  3. It says something about the August integration, but its not clear if I can use that to bypass this phone app stuff. Should I be creating a Yale account and logging in from this integration to get the offline code?

I also saw HomeKit integration show up, but using the key on the side, it wouldn’t connect no matter what I did. What am I missing?

It says I need root access on my Android app. Can I do that on my Samsung phone or is it something that’s impossible without rooting it and bypassing Knox?

Update: I got HomeKit working. Maybe I typed the key wrong before?

But there’s a “Lock” action, and it does nothing. It shouldn’t be there anyway because this is Z-Wave. There shouldn’t be a Bluetooth way of controlling the lock.

Either way, this seems ridiculous. I don’t wanna use the Yale app. I bought a Z-Wave device not because of connection quality but so I can have a permanent-installation device work regardless of the state of the company I purchased.
