It’s very difficult to find a decent smart door lock in the UK for using with multi-point locking systems for uPVC doors. I’m currently searching for one and I can find only 2 that are compatible with that type of door.
They are the Simpled lock and Yale Conexis L2.
Has anyone any experience with the Conexis? Are they any good? Do you still have to lever up the door handle to lock the door before engaging the Conexis or does it work just on the single deadbolt?
I had a Conexis, yes you do have to lift the handle before it will lock. Bit of a pain, especially if you don’t quite lift it enough and it makes all sorts of noises as it tries to lock. Connectivity was a pain but I did have the old L1 with zwave, not sure if that’s better now with the L2
I now have a Simpled. Its not as well made and I’ve had a replacement due to fingerprint sensor fail, and the fingerprint is a bit flakey, but it will lock without the lifting of the handle. It does this by basically disconnecting the outside handle from the locking mechanism. If you just shut the door, it auto locks and will only be locked at the lock point latch. If you lift the handle, it will engage the multi locks as normal.
That’s interesting about the Simpled lock. I watched an install video yesterday which seemed to suggest, but wasn’t clear, that the door could be locked without lifting the handle.
This lifting of the handle is what I think is stopping smart lock manufacturers from coming up with designs for these doors. After all one of the main reasons for having a smart lock is because you want the convenience of being able to lock it remotely when away from home if you forgot when you left and it sounds like the Conexis is useless in that scenario.
I also noticed in the video, that the Simpled does appear to be slightly more ‘plasticky’ as you mention it is not as well made.
Maybe I need to look further into the Simpled ones and continue to see if there are any others on the market that operate the same way as the Simpled as opposed to the Yale.
The door can be locked without lifting the handle but it does not engage the multilocks, just detaches the outside handle from the lock so is just locked on the latch. The auto lock of the SImpled works great too
In all fairness it’s pretty much the case that the handle would be pulled up on leaving the house anyway as it’s instinctual now. But it’d be good to set an automation that the lock engages automatically as you leave the premises regardless of whether the handle has been pulled up or not. Saves having to fumble to get the key’s out of your pocket and physically use them.
