Your Advise Pls

Hello,

I presently use the Develo home control solution to control the heating valves (6) of my weekend house 200 miles away from where I live. The heating itself I switch on/off via an SMS I send via mobile phone. To control the heating valves I so far used the Devolo Home Control solution with their App. The Devolo HW Solution comprises: 6 heating valves, 1 thermometer , 1 Home Control Hub and range extender/power plug.

Devolo will stop offering their Home Control services soon. I have three questions:
1.) Can Home Assistant Green take over the existing components: valves, temp, power plug/extender - so I can manage them remotely ?
2.) Is Home Assistant a solution that runs locally and is not depended on any cloud ? - therefor less depended and more resilient - I need the solution to run 247360
3.) I may extend my solution with video cams - should I go for Home Assistant Yellow out of the gate or is there an upgrade path later ?

Thanks a ton for your kind recommendations/answers,
ctk

According to devolo Home Control - Home Assistant (home-assistant.io) it seems to be a Zwave protocol?
I don’t know. But if the device are Zwave then I guess it should work. Perhaps you could list the actual devices and someone might offer some help.

So 5-6 days per year it can be down. I think HA can do that. Put a scheduled with when the downtime should be and I guess we can help you with that
But in your case you must have “cloud”. Either by direct connection to the IP of the router in the house or using Nabu casa cloud.
Perhaps you can set up an sms service with HA, never heard of it but probably doable.

As far as I know - and it’s a long time since I looked at Devolo, it’s Z-Wave based. In theory, you could unpair the devices from the Devolo hub and re-pair them with a generic Z-Wave stick on a HA green/yellow/diy device. See a Z-wave integration here.

Looks like there is a Devolo integration in HA already, but no idea if they route via Devolo cloud or remain local.

HA can be totally local and is reliable. If you want remote access, then either figure out a secure solution from the various guides around or subscribe to Nabu Casa - still cloud based but has many benefits.

Cams - well that depends on if you want NVR, smart detection of just to view a stream occasionally.

UPDATE: typo

The IoT class is local push so it should be local.
