My young son has a YouTube channel and wanted to see if I could ‘do something with home assistant’ when he got new subscribers. I installed the integration but it won’t show his channel. It was created under my google account and whilst I can see everyone else I am subscribed to, it won’t show his. Is there a way around this, please?
Here is how I got it to work:
Create another youtube channel on the same google account. (Yes that is possible.)
Then log into that channel you just created and subscribe to your son’s channel.
When you get to the google sign-in screen, select the new channel instead of your original google account. You can now enable your son’s channel from the configuration in HA.
WARNING:
Due to recent changes in the youtube API, when you call the subscriber count of another channel (your son’s in this case), eventually you are only going to see a rounded number once the sub count gets high.
For example: If your son’s channel reaches 1 324 subscribers (I made that number up), you might only see 1 000 in HomeAssistant. That kind of rounding only happens when you call a channel that is not yours. If you wanted to get the exact count you would need to log in with your son’s channel instead of the one you created, but as we can see, the Integration does not support that.
