Z-Wave 800 LR Devices Dropping Off Randomly But Nodes still say Alive [Solved]

I installed ~10 LR sensors and switches (all Zooz) and I’m seeing devices one at a time disconnect over time even though the UI shows them as still alive (can’t ping or control them). I’m able to exclude the dead devices but the nodes continue to show them alive and happy. I also can’t remove the nodes as failed since they are all above 255 node numbers (though one did finally let me remove it but haven’t been able to yet replicate whatever steps allowed that). I’ve been re-adding the devices as non-LR devices and that is working.

Anyone else running into this?

Did you actually need the LR features?

LR is point to point between the coordinator and the device and skips the mesh. So if these are just intended to be garden variety ZWave you just shot yourself in the foot. You should only include LR if you actually need the LR feature.

@NathanCu I fully understand the tradeoffs (been using Z-Wave for over a decade), but that’s not the issue raised here. Thanks

So I had a chance to do some more investigation and realized that all LR devices were offline. I had tried a full HA restart earlier, so instead I did a soft reset of my Z-Wave controller and that brought the nodes back online. Also, the failed node that I had done the earlier exclusion on finally reflected as dead and worked with a Remove Failed node command to erase it.

So it seems the issue was a lockup with the controller and the soft reset fixed it. :crossed_fingers: this helps anyone else who runs into a similar issue.
