Z-wave association groups and node limits

Does anyone know why association groups are limited to 5 nodes/devices? I currently have some old Insteon switches that are “grouped” and some of them have 10 (and more) devices in them. Z-Wave is a much newer protocol, and I don’t understand why they put this seemingly stringent restriction in their definition.

Thoughts?

That limitation is set in firmware by the device manufacturer and can vary from device to device. Some only allow 1 or 3 per group.

So if you want to associate devices in greater numbers, you have to use a hub like HA to create automations to catch state changes and perform actions on the other devices?
