Z-Wave Devices: "Cannot change status. Disabled by Config entry" Issue

Hi everyone,

I’m having trouble with several Z-Wave devices that display the message: “Cannot change status. Disabled by Config entry.” I’ve been struggling to identify the source of this configuration issue.

So far, I’ve verified:

  • Home Assistant’s device and entity settings (nothing explicitly disabled).
  • Configuration YAML files (no entries disabling devices).
  • Z-Wave integration settings (devices are included and appear correctly configured).

I’ve also tried re-interviewing the devices and restarting Home Assistant without success.

Has anyone encountered the “Disabled by Config entry” message before, or can anyone suggest other settings or logs I might check?

Thank you for any help or advice!

Yeah, that happened to me once on a different integration. But I thought the root cause was fixed. Are you running the current version of HA?

Did you ever happen to be in this situation?

I had that message about disabled devices on my z-wave entities, when trying to troubleshoot this.

Yep. On the newest version. Everything is up-to-date.

The way I fixed this was by shutting down HA and directly editing the device registry file in the .storage directory to reenable the device. If you try this, I recommend making a backup copy of the file and perhaps an HA backup to be safe. Post the entry if you want help.

Having never played with that, which file if you don’t mind me asking. Glad to take a snapshot of the VM.
