Z-Wave In Wall Dimmer with Usage Meter?

I mostly use Zooz switches throughout my house, but I’m trying to turn a set of dumb recessed lights into slightly “smarter” lights. The lights have two modes:

  1. Main light on
  2. Rim light on

These modes are set by turning the light on (mode 1) and turning the light off and back on again (mode 2). to activate the rim light.

Since there is no way a regular dimmer can tell what mode the light is currently in, I thought that maybe I could have HA monitor the voltage going through the switch (assuming the rim light draws less power) and write some automations based on the perceived state of the light.

The only switch I found that had an energy meter built in was an Enerwave Dimmer that doesn’t get great reviews. Anyone found another switch that exposes the usage going through the switch?

If you’re using Zooz, I’ll assume you’re using North American gear.

Innovelli Red Series has power monitoring, central scene control and indicator LEDs.:

biggest issue will be supply, they’re a bit of a unicorn right now - really hard to get.

Good luck with your project.
