Hi. I was a long time homeseer user and had all of my z-wave devices on a Z-Net 500 series. I kept the Z-Net and moved to HA. Love it. However…
My Z-wave devices stop working every few weeks, particularly when new updates are available (but not always). I notice that when that happens, the light on the Z-Net case is red. I install the updates and that typically resets it and we’re good. Sometimes there is no update, and the fix seems to be changing the log level from info to debug or warn and save (under Z-Wave JS | settings | Z-Wave) and again, we’re back online. Totally odd.
Do I have a faulty Z-Net 500? Maybe, I can order a 700. Do I have a misconfig? Perhaps, but I don’t know where to look. If I did switch to a Z-Net G3/700, how do I migrate?
You’re likely restoring things just by restarting the process, which would happen with the log level change.
If I had to guess, with the limited information provided, the ser2net configuration on your Z-Net isn’t set to allow reconnection if a network hiccup occurs.
How do you have the Z-Net connected to the network? Ethernet cable or Wi-Fi?
Also, how would I check the ser2net hypothesis? To support that, one of my Z-Wave devices failed and was giving off a bad signal. Sometimes we get the failures when new versions of HA or ZW-JS comes out.
Login locally to Z-Net and look at the /etc/ser2net.conf file. The settings are documented in the comments. There was a discussion on the HomeSeer forum about devices that shipped out with no timeout so if a network disconnect were to occur, it will not reconnect. You can probably find the discussion with a search of ser2net and timeout.
