So maybe it’s my lack of basic knowledge of ZWave but I can’t figure out how to get another switch communicating consistently. I blindly started adding plugs by plugging a switch next to my laptop with my HUSBZB-1 next to me and adding it to my network. After adding it and confirming that it’s working, I would then plug it into where I intend it. Devices 1-4 worked great. Device 5 (node 5) didn’t connect or just partially and HA reports it as dead. It’s within 15 feet of another plug switch that is working just great and is supposed to be a repeater. If I plug it in closer to the hub, all is well.
Why isn’t the plug connecting to the closest node? It seem to only want to connect to the hub.
I have tried to “heal” the network by shutting down HA for 30 minutes with the devices on. No effect. Is there another way to add this device or “repair” the network?
You’ve messed up your routes. The heal may not even be getting to the device. Even if it is the other ones are also bad so you should heal starting at the ones closest to the hub and moving out. If that doesn’t work factory reset the device and readd it with it where it’ll live. You should include devices only in their final resting place.
I spoke out of turn it seems. It was working for a day just doing a heal. Sooo… I decided to start from scratch:
1.) Plugged the device close to the hub and verified I could see it.
2.) Put the server in exclusion mode and removed it.
3.) Factory reset the device.
4.) Plugged it in to it’s home location and added it.
The server added it without issue but the manufacture details didn’t show up. Tested the operation and the switch function worked as expected so I thought I would wait. I have noticed in the past the these details take a bit to load. After about an hour, the node is dead and operating like before.
This plug is only about 15 feet from the next node so I don’t understand why I’m having this issue.
What version of zwave-js are you on? It would really be much easier if you opened an issue at the node-zwave-js project on GitHub and posted log files. Just check the option saying that a dev told you to go there.
I recently had a similar issue of removing a node and adding it back in but the controller still reported it as dead. To fix it, I had to exclude the device, reboot HA, make sure it wasn’t in the Zwave nodes list, reboot HA one more time, include the node, reboot HA a final time and after that all attributes and sensors for my node showed up correctly and the node no longer shows up as dead after an hour or so.
