Z-Wave not reliable, not working, switches not turning on or off, or after 10 minutes

When I switch on a light or switch I get:

What I tried:

Removed and Reinstalled Homeassistant (running in venv).
Removed Modem Manager package from system.
Reset all of the z-wave devices, cleared everything from the controller, delete the z-wave integration and started all over.
Included all nodes again, one at a time, naming them in homeassistant.
Scanned with Viavi OneExpert spectrum analyzer at 868 MHz, I see a lot of traffic but not that much that it shouldn’t work, so no RF interference.
I placed the Z-Stick 3 meters above the ground.

Hardware:

Raspberry Pi 3
Aeotec Z-Wave Stick Gen5
23 z-wave nodes in total, within a range of 15 meters from z-wave stick.

OZW_Log:

When clicking below link please be patient, it is a lot text, loading takes about 20 seconds.

I’m clueless.
Anyone an idea?

What does your Zwave network look like ?
How many “jumps” from the controler to the farthest node ?
What is the average reponse time for all your nodes ?

All these info are easily available using some ZWave graph addon for instance.

That’s relative

Exclude your switches and include them without secure mode. (Unless required)

I have 23 nodes all directly available to the controller which is placed in the centre of the house, the most farthest node (about 15 meters) is not jumping but directly connected to the z-wave aeotec stick.

I used the z-wave graph before for that, but it isn’t working anymore since homeassistant v0.117.5, it is now giving an error:

Unable to load custom panel from https://cupboard-domotica.flissinger.local:8123/local/zwavegraph3.js

But that’s another issue.

Agreed, but for someone who has managed to install, configure Home Assistant, addons, install and configure a ZWave network, scan 868MHz band and anaylyez traffic… it should not be too complicated to install a ZWave graph addon which does not require any configuration.

Analyze HFC traffic is what I do for a living, so that’s not a problem.

Strange thing is that all nodes are ready, but no one is working.
All nodes are indeed included secure, but even the ones that are not are not working at all.
I will try to exclude and include all of the 23 and start over (again) but non-secure.
But even if all nodes are added secure it should work, why does not even 1 node is responding?

I experience sort of the same… I have only 5 devices… Suddenly all Z-wave devices stops to work in HA. !?

I’m using the latest openzwave (beta) with MQTT…
cannot find the OZW_log.txt file in this setup… (Only having std-out from docker running zwave daemon)

I’m kinda lost on where to start debugging? Does any one have some clues on where to start ??

I find that my furthest device (a SSR 302 2-zone Thermostat Receiver) keeps on going unresponsive (which it didn’t used to). This is one jump away from the controller. I find I have to restart the OpenZWave integration and then just wait for about 10 mins. Trying to refresh the node tends to just confuse matter (either the device disappears from HA completely, or the refresh never succeeds and I’m left with a blank device on my hands until I restart OpenZWave and just leave it for a little while). It may not be an answer, but hopefully it’s better than reinstalling the whole of HA.

Are you using the latest openzwave (beta) with MQTT or just the regular Zwave integration?

My experience was that the openzwave (beta) with MQTT is far more stable than the other…
I do still have issues though…

I use the normal ZWave integration.

Tried the new z-wave integration based on MQTT, and having the same problems, after years of frustration I’m giving up now.
I said goodbye to z-wave, removed all devices from my house and started using Shelly 2.5pm devices, which are Wi-Fi based and are working like a charm and instantly using Homeassistant Integration Shelly - Home Assistant (home-assistant.io).
