Hi,
I was running HASSOS on a NUC for four years before i switched to Homey in august. Now i want to go back to Home Assistant because Homey does not cut it for me.
Before the switch to Homey, everything was running fine.
I did a clean install off HASSOS on the same NUC it was running on in august. After the basic setup, i have installed Z-WAVE JS UI and configured my Aeotec z-stick gen 5, but i can not longer add z-wave devices. Inclusion mode runs fine, but does not detect anything. I have over 50 z-wave devices and tried different ones. I also tried my new z-stick 700 stick, but it’s the same outcome.
I have tried different things so far, like installing onto an other NUC, tried the z-strick 5 and 700 serie on z-wave PC controller (they work flawless), disabled soft reset, ec…
Also nothing is shown in the debug logs, you see the inclusion command executed and then aborted by time-out. No errors whatsoever.
My Home Assistant version is 2023.11.3
OS 11.1
Z-WAVE JS UI 3.0.2
700 serie stick v7.17.2
Does anybody has the same problem with z-wave on a new installation? Anybody has an idea what could be wrong here?
Thx,
Tim

Did you exclude your device before you tried to include it? If not the ZWave device still thinks it’s connected the old network.
You can run a general device exclude from any ZWave coordinator so run exclude from HA. Exclude rhe device then try to include it.

Yes, i have 2 test devices that i reset manually, so they are not linked to another controller. Also exclusion does not work, times out after the default 30 sec.

If the device is not ZWave plus a factory reset isn’t enough. You also need to exclude. Exclude on reset wasn’t added to the ZWave spec until plus.
How is your coordinator connected to what’s running HA. (direct in usb port? USB hub?)
(Hint: were finding you should be using an extension cord at least)

I’m testing currently with a fibaro smoke sensor (z-wave plus) reset the device on yellow light. Worked in the past, so i think this should be fine. The coordinator is connected directly to the USB port on the NUC, but as you mentioned i tried also an extension cord, heck even tried an active USB extension cord with both coordinators.

It’s time to start grabbing debug logs then.
You’ll want to keep the extension cord - especially if you have an SSD in that nuc. (SSD noise on the USB bus is usually the actual problem the extension solves with ZWave sticks, with zigbee it’s an order of magnitude worse.)
I assume you’re also addressing the stick by-id instead of using the default virtual USB port?

Yes, by ID, but checking the homey, i see there are also some issues. Does the Homey 2023 could interfere with the z-stick 700 by any means? I’ve tried to pull the plug from Homey, but dit not see any difference, but Homey can also not add any devices, very strange and Homey does also have many TX errors. Only thing changes over the past weeks is the addition of a Ubiquiti Dream Machine. But why is this happening right now…thats the question…

Zwave networks generally don’t interfere with each other like that. If you don’t need it I’d kill it… But. That’s probably not the issue.

Ok, i’ve included the JS log. Near the end you will find a try for inclusion.

Just a word of advice, don’t use Silly logging unless a developer specifically asks for it. It has too much noise. Debug is good enough.

command: GetRFRegion

First of all, you won’t be able to include anything with a region set to “Unknown”. Make sure you set your region to the correct location and power levels. Second, the power levels look suspicious, I’ve never seen configuration of 0.0 / 0.2. You can send an email to Aeotec to ask what their recommendation is, but according to the screenshot at the bottom of this page , the values are 9.9 / -6.5.
You can set both settings in either the ZUI control panel under the controller entry, or preferably in the Z-Wave settings. The latter method ensures the region and power levels are persisted after firmware upgrades, which has a habit of resetting them.
Also, your background RSSI is terrible. This could be related to the power level settings, or even lack of a USB extension cable. Make sure the controller is not located in something like a server cage that blocks RF. You should look at these values after you’ve made changes and see if they improve:
2023-11-25T19:26:29.820Z DRIVER « [RES] [GetBackgroundRSSI]
channel 0: -101 dBm
channel 1: -50 dBm
channel 2: -50 dBm
I don’t remember which channels are which frequencies, but with background RSSI at -50 dBm it may be a challenge to include anything, since everything is going to appear as noise. For 700-series all 3 channels should be around -100 dBm.

hi,
thank you for your reply.
The region was set in the z-wave settings, i also fixed the power levels now, but i can not change them at the controller level, these values:
they always reset back to there defaults seen in the screenshot.
Also when i restart the JS integration the power levels could not be set and region stay at unknown:

I have a vague recollection that some sticks had problems like this until after performing a firmware upgrade. However, 7.17.2 is the version that Aeotec currently recommends. You may need to get support from them.
The Gen5 wouldn’t have any of these problems though, so something else is going on for that one.

Well, i’ve got the same problem with the Gen5, region and powerlevels fail to set. Thinking it’s a Z-WAVE JS UI bug…

May to mention, both stick’s work fine in PC controller, can add and remove devices just perfectly

Hi,
I have found the culprit of this issue. One of my Qubino z-wave DIN-rail dimmers has malfunctioned and disrupted the hole z-wave network. Found out the hard way by resetting all z-wave devices/config, and eliminated all grid powered device’s. Removing this bad boy and my controller was accepted new devices again.
Grtz,
Tim
