Z-wave Smart Switch with smart bulbs

Hello,

I know I will get a lot of heat for this, but hoping someone can help me figure this out. I have a 2 part question. I currently have a smart switch that controls our kitchen lights. I recently added 4 smart bulbs in the ceiling (can lights) which I have grouped in home assistant. I can use the smart switch to turn the lights on and off, but in the event the smart switch is off and I for example say " alexa turn on kitchen lights" the lights turn on, but first check to make sure the switch is on and then turn on the smart bulbs if off?

Also would like to be able to say “Alexa set kitchen lights to warm white” but need to make sure smart switch is on if off.

I have nodered installed and been using that for most of my automations, so if that would be make it easier I am okay with using nodered.

Thanks in advance for any suggestions.

What about permanently leaving the bulbs powered and disconnecting them from the switch? Then you can check state changes of the switch to trigger automation to turn the lights on/off, but do not need to check the status of switch before performing any action from Alexa…

Thanks…So if I am able to do it like you suggest, I won’t be able to use the physical switch or am I over thinking it? I still want to be able to turn the lights on and off from the switch.

Well, physical switch will not actually power on/off the lights (so from this perspective won’t be useful), but it will provide signal via its status change, via HA, to turn the bulbs on or off…
Alternative solution could be to replace it with some remote, like Aeotec Wallmote, but this introduces new device to the system, perhaps not ‘visually coordinated’ with other. My solution allows to retain same rocker switch with connected smart switch.
