The error means the Z-Wave JS driver thinks a controller update is already in progress. It shouldn’t be possible to see that message unless you actually already started an update, unless there is a bug. There should be a status shown in a gray box in the upper right of the UI. Do you have any logs that show an error?
If the update crashed and the stick is stuck in the bootloader, then you’ll need to instruct ZUI to go into bootloader only mode and try the update again. This is done by going to the ZUI Z-Wave settings and turning on “Bootloader only”.
What is the conclussion for what hardware to get today in EU?
I can get the aeotec v7 stick or the silicon labs 700 (SLUSB001A) both will be about the same price with taxes and shipping, so what should I get?
Today I have a network of 22 units, and a gen 5 (non plus pre 2018) z-stick from aeotec, that I can not update to v1,02 and therefore I have issues with the latest z-wave js impementation where I need to physically remove the stick to ge tthe network going from time to time.
Nothing yet, I was in contact with aeotec support in regards to updating my current stick. After we understood that was not possible i asked the support tech about the info on hassio webpage that says that the eu version of the Gen7 stick should be avoided. After some research on his end we came to the conclusion that my current Gen5 stick might have better range then the updated Gen7 eu version.
So since then I have been on vacation, hassio had two (?) Updates and now it seems the z-wave is behaving much better. I guess I’ll wait some more, who knows maybe aeotec will release a Gen8 soon?
My research has at least told me that the zooz seems nice but hard to get in the eu. The Siliconlabs should be avoided and those with the aeotec gen7 seem to be very happy with their choice.
The question was in the “EU”, as the European Union, different frequencies between the us LR sticks and the EU non LR.
The gen8 s available with a EU spec, wtuhout the LR, but it’s only available to buy from a US store, you pay almost as much for stick as you do for shipment, not including taxes, so the zooz becomes not that attractive as a buy.
Well - i have used two AEOTEC z-stick 5’s now (the second one being hardware revised for RPI) - but so far a LOT of headaches. Non-usb compliance causing the weirdest issues (had to use a $5 usb hub to have it sync on usb2) and what is even worse: i lost my network twice randomly. Just PIA and therefore not sure about the 7 series.
Thanks - i’ve just ordered the Zooz 800 stick given the fact that Aeotec had issues with their USB compatibility in the past (500 sticks) and RF issues with the 700 stick. If Aeotec wants to experiment that is fine, but not with my money/system. These products were either not well designed enough or insufficiently tested. I hope i have a better experience with Zooz… the challenge now being to migrate my existing z-wave network from the Aeotec 500 stick to the Zooz 800 stick…
Thanks - i’ve installed the update using simplicity studio and everything went fine - contrary to the Aeotec sticks which have been a royal pain in the ass over the last few years (weird network problems, USB stick detection etc etc). I tried to migrate the network but that failed - so i ended up rebuilding the whole network.
Yeah - the problem on my side was the version of software/sdk on the Z-Stick 5. I tried to upgrade but then the stick refused to connect. After spending a few hours on the migration attempts i decided to just re-include all devices (just took two hours).
Anyway - the network is a lot more responsive and also seems more stable. In addition i can use the Zooz stick in a USB Hub without any issue (the Z-Stick was hit and miss).
Oh, you hadn’t updated the stick to firmware 1.02. Yeah, then there’s no way around rebuilding the network (but that’s much nicer with SmartStart if you have any S2-enabled devices).
Guess i my Z-Stick 5 turned out to be defective - could not access it anymore (device descriptor invalid, com3 appeared only once) on different laptops. Guess it was a smart move to go to a Zooz stick. Now i hope that i get a stable network after all these years…
Homeseer Smartstick G8: How to change the RF region to Europe?
I added the Smartstick G8 to a Home Assistant Green (via HomeSeer integration).
Default Z-Wave frequency of this stick is 908 MHz (= region USA).
In Europe, Z-Wave is 868 MHz based.
In the specification of the stick is written:
“Supports all regions (changeable in software), default setting is 908 MHz”.
This can be seen in log, too:
“2024-09-15T14:51:17.259Z CNTRLR Querying configured RF region…
2024-09-15T14:51:17.287Z CNTRLR The controller is using RF region USA (Long Range)”
How can I change this RF region to European frequency to be able to add my European Z-Wave devices? Sorry, if this question is silly, but I am new in the HA world.
Thank you very much!
