Z-Wave USB Stick Recommendations

Great! I installed Z-Wave JS UI and found this parameter in section “settings->zwave”! Thank you very much!
I entered the generated keys in the key fields (copy-paste from my backup file for the keys; they were generated during installation of Z-Wave JS integration and Z-Wave S add-on). Now I struggle with the missing entry of “Serial port”. In the documentation I found this:
" 3. Enter the following information:

  • Serial Port (e.g., /dev/serial/by-id/usb-0658_0200_if00)
  • Network Key (e.g., 2232666D100F795E5BB17F0A1BB7A146)"
But where do I find this path of the serial port (similar to this shown path in the example)?

The add-on should auto-detect it. Just click the pull down menu and select the by-id path.

This worked!!
The “save” after this worked, too.
But next message was:
“Driver: Failed to open the serial port: Error Resource temporarily unavailable Cannot lock port (CW0100)”
I searched for this message in the community here, but got no hits…

Sounds like you have both add-ons installed, which is not allowed. https://www.home-assistant.io/integrations/zwave_js/#can-i-switch-between-the-official-z-wave-js-add-on-and-the-z-wave-js-ui-add-on

Thank you! I read this before but it was not completely clear for me.
I stopped the Z-Wave JS add-on, but did not found a way to stop Z-Wave JS integration by now like described in step 1 “Disable the Z-Wave integration”.
Now I found it under the three dots context menu and deactivated the Z-Wave S integration.
Step 2 to 4 is already done.
Now I tried step 4 “Add the Z-Wave integration again (even though it is still installed)”. (It is still installed in my HA, but deactivated.)
I pushed “Configure” and got this error message:
“Failed to connect: Cannot connect to host core-zwave-js:3000 ssl:default [Connect call failed (‘172.30.33.3’, 3000)]”
So I did not come to the screen to uncheck the checkbox or “Use the Z-Wave JS Supervisor add-on”.”
Guess, this is not a trivial process…and I have too few experience in HA…

If you don’t have any devices, just uninstall the Z-Wave integration and re-install following the ZUI add-on instructions.

If you have devices you can follow the migration guide.

Or, if you’ve successfully changed the region, you can go back to the official add-on, but many prefer Z-Wave JS UI.

I removed the Z-Wave JS integration.
I added a new hub and got the popup "Use the Z-Wave JS Supervisor add-on”, unchecked this and continued.
In the next screen I got a popup for the ZWave URL prefilled with “ws://localhost:3000”.
I simply accepted this but got the error message “Connection failed”.
I guess, I do not know how to find “…the correct address for the community add-on …”. Is this Information visible somewhere in ZWave JS UI addon settings?

Please follow the instructions in the add-on docs. There is a documents tab on the add-on page.

Sorry, I don’t wanted to bother you with trivial questions.
I misinterpreted this line in the documentation:
" Enter: ws://a0d7b954-zwavejs2mqtt:3000"
This is a constant (!) and not an example for a variable information specific in my local HA.
This was accepted and I am finished with this configuration.
I would have had no chance without this great support, thanks!
Kind regards Ralf

The G3 is a Z-Wave reference design and it will work on Home Assistant and any other Z-Wave compatible software. FYI

I am using a Aeotec Z-Stick Gen 7 (EU) and it is getting more and more problems and random disconnects.

I am thinking about changing my controller for an other brand.

Are there any new recommendations ? I read a lot about Zooz 800 series.
Has anyone experience with this stick and HA?

I’m also not sure what version to take, i live in te EU, but HA supports Long Range now. Should i still but the EU version? Or does it not matter and can I change the frequention and region with any controller?
