Hey all fellow HA peeps, I hoping someone can give me guidance on this issue I’m experiencing:
I installed two Eaton Z-Wave plus receptacles/outlets (RFTR9605-TAW) approx. 200ft away from my HA with the Zooz ZST39 USB stick (firmware 1.3.0). The outlets are added to the Z-Wave JS hub via QR code. But they are not connecting.
I then added a Minoston smart plug (800S) approx 50ft away from HA Zooz stick, and it provisioned successful via QR code in Z-Wave JS hub. I was hoping the Minoston plug would act as a repeater and bring in my two receptacles further away, but this is not happening.
Yes and no change, still only sees closest plug…
I swapped out the Zooz for a Nortek HUSBZB-1 and now I lost the QR and option, and searching for the devices times out with nothing found.
200’ that’s quite a haul with no repeater. Walls and people and pets and things are real and all absorb RF. I doubt that will ever work.
In contrast I’ve used 25’ (about 8-10m) as planning distance between powered nodes forever. With 800 series chips (if I can confirm all are 800 and there’s no 500 or 700 chips participating (hint next to impossible task) the i increase my planning distance to 100’ (read HALF of your distance you’re trying to reach)
Yes i just said I have NEVER succefully even hit half of the stated distance reliability and double up the repeaters. And I don’t have things drop.
The repeater is a great idea but I read it still leaves you > 100’
I resolved my issue!
I went ahead and invested in a Zooz ZAC38 range extender. I placed the repeater in the house approx 40ft from HASS in the house and approximately 30ft from the outdoor Eaton Z-Wave Outlets.
The repeater was found right away in HASS and added to home assistant without an issue.
I then put each outdoor outlet in pairing mode and they were discovered within seconds.
