Z2M - Lights keep turning on by themselves

Hi there

Please help!

I recently moved all my Zigbee devices from Deconz to Zigbee2MQTT, the customisation is much better and I’ve been able to get my Master / Slave configuration to work perfectly on the stairs where I have a switch at top and bottom.

However, the light switches seem to have a life of their own and keep randomly turning on at night. I’ve had to set up 2 automation to switch them all off at 4am and 8am. The wife is going crazy everytime she goes out of the bedroom with the baby, all the lights seem to be turned on downstairs. Now, I don’t think it’s ghosts.

Has anyone else using Z2M had this issue? At first I thought it was an automation I have to turn on a lamp when one of the switches is pressed, so I disabled that, but the issue is still happening, and wasn’t happening with Deconz.

I have Aurora Aone dimmer switches in the rooms in question.

Can I disable Z2M and try out ZHA to see if that works?

Any help would be appreciated.

What does the history on the devices tell you? Check the time stamps and what triggered them on / off.

It just says they turned on.

But when the automation turns them off at 4am, it says turned off by the automation.

What are their power-on settings?
…and do you get tiny power drops?

I’ve had this happen a bit, I went as far as to remove the zigbee bulbs and replace with cync by GE lights.

My power on (lost power) state is set to off and there are no automations to turn lights on automatically.

The bulbs are from different manufacturers, so it’s not a manufacturer specific thing. I never got to the bottom of it, just replaced them.

I have Hue bulbs and have never had this problem in there ~3 years I have been using Z2M.

It is probably not a coincidence that the rooms with the problem all have this dimmer (and the rooms without the problem do not have this dimmer?).

Well, I don’t seem to be able to change the power settings, despite it being one of the Exposures for the dimmers, every time I try to change the option, it shows up an error message!

Any ideas?

I only have smart dimmers, no dumb ones, or smart bulbs!
