ZBT-2: Missing integration entities (LED control, status sensor) - bug or limitation?

ZBT-2 integration is missing entities that ZWA-2 (released Oct 2025) has:

ZWA-2 has: LED control ✓, Status sensor ✓, Tilt detection ✓
ZBT-2 has: LED control disappears after FW update ✗, Status sensor missing ✗, Tilt detection missing ✗

Questions for NabuCasa

  1. Is this a software bug being addressed?
  2. Or hardware/firmware limitation?
  3. Should users keep units or return as defective?
  4. Does ZBT-2 have accelerometer hardware (like ZWA-2)? If yes, why isn’t it exposed?

My Setup

  • HA 2025.11.3 (firmware update issue resolved in this version ✓)
  • ZBT-2 FW 7.4.4.5
  • ZHA integration

Official guidance appreciated. Thank you.

Shouldn’t official guidance come from the manufacturer instead of, no matter how amazing these people are, a volunteer community?!?!

Have you contacted the manufacturer???

Fair point. I have already submitted a technical support ticket to Nabu Casa and am currently waiting for their response.
In the meantime, since developers are active here and other users might be experiencing the same regression, I wanted to document these missing entities publicly. Often the community verifies bugs faster than the support queue turnaround.

I get it completely.

I suspect they will pass you off to this community anyway. That just bothers me as a company should support products they sell.

I received an official reply from Nabu Casa support regarding these missing entities.

The verdict:

  1. Not a hardware defect: The missing LED control and Status sensor are confirmed as features pending implementation.
  2. Plan: They will be added in a future update.
  3. Timeline: No specific ETA at this moment.

Note:
Support referred to “both features” being added later. This likely covers the LED and Status sensor. The question regarding the accelerometer (tilt detection) remains unconfirmed, implying it might not be present or wasn’t addressed in the reply.

Conclusion:
In that case, I’ll wait patiently for the software update. Once released, we can verify if the accelerometer is actually present in the ZBT-2 hardware.

Got reply from Nabu Casa - the missing LED control and Status sensor are pending implementation, not a bug. Fair enough, keeping the unit.

However… I saw there’s a new firmware 7.4.4.6 today with LED fix in changelog. Tried to install it via HA and it completely bricked my Zigbee network. ZBT-2 got stuck in bootloader mode, ZHA wouldn’t load, all devices offline.

HA cannot recover from this state on its own. Had to use the web flasher at toolbox.openhomefoundation.org from a PC, reverted to 7.4.4.5, and everything came back.

I’ve skipped 7.4.4.6 for now. Would recommend others do the same until this is sorted.

Mine automatically upgraded to 7.4.4.6 when I installed it just now. No issues. LED still not controllable, though. It’s just off.

The LED and Status will be welcome additions when they happen. I am just glad it turns the LED’s OFF by default as it would annoy the heck out of me if the LED stayed on or flashing in it’s current location.
As far as tilt sensor. Why do you even need this? The Antenna should be placed in a stable place and not moved, or it will be on display and still not moved as moving it would upset the Zigbee network somewhat. The antenna will work fine horizontal or vertical, just not as efficient horizontal. I found the Tilt sensor on the ZWA device a bit of w*** factor and not really a useful thing.
If your antenna falls over, you pick it up. You can physically see if it is tilted.
Remember the ZWA and ZBT are different devices and they may or may not have the same feature set and we should only rely on the features they ship with as other features may not ever make it across. I admit the LED control would be disappointing if it never arrived, but the thing is a Zigbee ( or thread) radio, it’s there to be part of infrastructure not really to be a fancy candle.

I have had no issues with firmware 7.4.4.6 and no official recommendations to avoid it seem to exist. It just seems to work. It does take some time for the Zigbee devices to come back online with 7.4.4.6, almost like they have to reconfigure their channel allocations again, but give it enough time and they all come back. All 50 of my devices are happy with the ZBT-2 with 7.4.4.6 after about 1 hour letting them all settle.

I think the Home Assistant end, rather than the ZBT-2 end, needs some updates to see things like the LED control. I got the ZBT-2 more to support the project, so a few initial bugs on a brand new product are expected I guess. I have found if Nabu Casa say they plan to introduce a feature, they usually do. That said, I still am happy with the device as is out of the box. It’s a decent Zigbee radio (which is what I use it for)
