Hello, Ive ordered the matter m1 matter/thread/zigbee hub and I just want to know if anyone knows what this will be like incorporating with home assistant? I know it’s new but I have a feeling I won’t be able to use it too much with home assistant. Ideally I’d like to use it in place of zigbee dongle and obviously as a border router, but I’m not sure that’s even possible. Who knows though? It’ll be here in a week. I know I definitely am willing to try getting it working as much as possible. I know, why order this? Well, I just wanted something new to try out and I’m just hoping that it becomes useful to home assistant in some way.
Didn’t know they made a matter hub
Please do post your review on this, curious if it still works if the internet’s offline
Oh I definitely will! I wanted to find out once I receive it if there is a way it can be put into home assistant directly but I’m not sure if there is. Either way I think it’s gonna be a picky little thing and only want me to use it with Tuya and zemismart devices but we will see. I wonder if I would be able to get it to connect to ZHA as the coordinator with some work and tinkering… I will definitely post an update after I see how it does. If anyone has any knowledge on how I could somehow achieve getting it into ZHA as a coordinator please let me know lol it just made it to California so it should be here within a few days!
I was just looking at this hub on Amazon wondering how well it does work and if it worked with HA. Looking forward to you review.
I’ve just received mine. It is currently running below with no updates available:
Main Module: V1.8.12
Other type: V3.4.0
I have a SkyConnect running in Thread only mode on Home Assistant Yellow (inbuilt radio is running Zigbee only).
Having some difficulties that have been partially resolved using the “latest beta” of the matter server.
- I can pair the device by the Matter Code sticker (non-beta matter server failed to pair). It unfortunately seems to then go unavailable.
- I can pair the device to the Tuya app using the Matter Code sticker.
- I can pair the device to the Apple Home app using the Matter Code sticker.
Problem is when I add a Zigbee device via the Tuya app.
I added a Tuya TS0012 (_TYZB01_6g8b7at8) single gang switch.
- Home Assistant shows the device but no controls (no entities) under the device.
- Tuya app shows everything (expected).
- Apple Home app immediately showed a new “Matter Device” switch, that is working perfectly.
For now I’m at a loss. I think this could be resolved over time and has potential when it is, but for now I’d say the Zemismart Homekit Hub is probably still the best option for Home Assistant - linked via the Homekit Device addon.
Any changes since your last post? It will be awesome to have a ethernet device that can act as thread border router, even more if the zigbee part also works
Update to my post - January 2024.
I have just updated my M1 Hub to the following via the Tuya app:
Main Module: V1.9.2
Other Tyoe: V3.4.0
With this update, I have then re-added this to Home Assistant via the following steps:
- Selected “Share via Matter Gateway” in Gateway/“3 dots in top right”
- Copied the Matter code provided
- In Home Assistant mobile app, added a Matter device, using the code
I think adding via this method rather than the Matter code on the unit itself may also be part of the reason this is now working.
The gateway now shows in Home Assistant.
I then removed a Tuya single gang light switch from my Z1 Zigbee/Homekit hub, and added to the M1.
This switch immediately showed up in Home Assistant Matter Devices, and is functioning correctly.
Unfortunately like the Zigbee/HomeKit hub Tuya dimmers while they pair and work in the Tuya app, don’t get presented over Matter.
So - seems Zemismart have made some changes (along with Home Assistant team updates) and this hub now seems to be working correctly.
Note: I haven’t worked out if it’s possible to merge the Thread Border Router into the Home Assistant Thread network yet.
Thanks,
Shane.
That means you’d still need to unpair it from the homekit hub and add it to M1?
Tuya Dimmers don’t seem to work at all on either the older Zigbee/Homekit hub or the new M1.
They pair, just don’t get translated to either HomeKit (on the older hub) or matter on the m1.
Just seem to be unsupported from what I can tell.
any udpated on getting the dimmers exposed to matter?
can they even come up in homekit as just a light switch or nothing at all?
Dimmers are still not exposed by Zemismart M1 Matter Hub ( Main Module: v1.9.2 Other Type:V3.4.0) There has not been a firmware update for quite a long time now …
Tested with TS0601 and TS110F dimmers - these devices are not in the PartsList of the Bridge.
someone on reddit informed me that their clipsal schneider elecric tuya dimmer switch works with this hub and it gets exposed to homekit
Also has anyone tried this hub with multiple zigbee lights, does it have the popcorn effect when you turn them on at the same time? or does it all turn on at the same time?
@shanelord I Managed to follow your steps and update firmware etc and connect it originally ,
But however I’ve since moved my homeassitant OS to another Vlan and re-installed everything fresh, but now no matter what i try i cant this M1 Hub to connect. All i get is Unable to Add Accessory.
Ive tried mapping the network port to same Vlan or Default one, HA can see it, i add the code in but nothing. no matter how many times i reset it.
Anythoughts ?
I am also having problems with this hub. I have added the hub succesfully to home assistant and I can see the hub in home assistant. However the zigbee light that I have paired with the M1 hub does not show up in HA.
Anyone else think that “Matter” has bee a giant cluster F! It has done the opposite of all the claims.
I find the Matter integration from the M1 to be flaky at best. I have had much more success with the Tuya Local integration.
