ZHA instable after migration from a physical host to a haos in a vm in proxmox

Hi everyone,

I recently installed Proxmox and set up Home Assistant OS (HAOS) in a virtual machine. Everything seemed to be working fine at first, but I’ve noticed that my Zigbee devices, such as motion sensors and door sensors, are now unreliable. At random times, some of the devices stop working or don’t respond as expected.

Here’s a quick overview of my setup:

  • Proxmox running on [hardware specs, if you know them].
  • HAOS installed in a VM.
  • Using SONOFF Zigbee 3.0 USB Dongle Plus V2

Things I’ve tried so far:

  • Tried all possible passtrough settings in proxmox
  • Fresh install of proxmox and Home assistant

Despite this, the issue persists. The sensors sometimes work perfectly, and at other times they just don’t respond at all. It’s really frustrating!

Questions:

  • Could this be an issue with USB passthrough in Proxmox? How can I verify that my Zigbee adapter is correctly configured?
  • Is there a known issue with Zigbee interference or signal strength in a virtualized HAOS setup?
  • Are there specific Proxmox settings or optimizations I should check?
  • Could hardware limitations or resources allocated to the VM cause this behavior?
  • If i dont virtualize home assistant i dont have problems. Do others have the same problems?

I’d love to hear if anyone else has experienced similar issues or if you have suggestions for diagnosing and resolving this. Thanks in advance for your help!

Hello tinker9x9x9,

Is the USB connected to an 1 or 2 meter extension cable to get it away from the computer interference? It is sounding to me like the new location of the stick is giving you problems, extend it and move it away.

Yes it is connected with a 1m extension.

If i boot haos without virtualisation it is reliable
