Zigbee 13A 2000W+ UK Plug

Hi Team.

I am trying to find a UK smart plug that will support 13A and 2000W+. It needs to be able to measure power consumption as Its mainly to plug my Hot Tub in. Anyone have any suggestions?

All UK 13a plugs will support 2990W.

So you are basically looking for any UK smart plug that supports monitoring. You don’t state what communication protocol you are looking for but if it’s zigbee I can recommend the following:

We have several of these and use them for some fairly high loads, they don’t even get warm and I have never had one fail as yet.

That’s correct but there are some smart plugs that will only switch 10A. I think the ST one you attached is rated at 13A

Thanks. I have a few ST plugs already but I was sure the max rating on them was 1800w.

My hot tub is just a bit over 2000w

This is the ST plug I have.

i

13a X 230v (220-240v) = 2990w.

So they wouldn’t design the internals to support less than the fuse as that would instantly fail approval.

Thanks mate. It’s just threw me as I’m sure i read awhile ago they were a max of 1800.

So what would happen if you put more than 10a through them, I assume they must have intelligent circuit isolation of some form as otherwise they would be a massive safety risk.

I assume so.

10A one here:

Even worse is some advertise as being capable of switching 16A, not sure how that works in a 13A socket !

Just running the filter it’s pulling about 47w. When the heat kicks in it’s a little over 2000w

Now I have it plugged in I can see how many times over 24hrs the heat kicks in.

:joy: that’s crazy.

And that is exactly why when it comes to smart plugs (or in fact anything that connects to mains voltage) I will only buy from large recognised and well established brands and not some cheap nasty s**t online.

I wouldn’t even have those in my house, let alone plug them in :joy:

I cringe every time I see post online where people are asking for what the cheapest smart plug :scream:

Perfect, happy monitoring :+1:t2:

Also having had a look at the plug you have I am reasonably confident it’s actually rated at 3200w based on the 240v measurement commonly used before 230v was adopted as the standard.
