Zigbee components do not work properly in the CONZ, can I use ZHA next to it?

Hello everyone,
first of all happy new year to all.

I have quite a few Zibgee lighting from IKEA at home with various switches from IKEA and iCasa, I ran this together with the deCONZ app without any problems.

I only have 4 GIRA/INSTA wall switches, two Zigbee smoke/CO detectors and a TUYA wall plug.
Unfortunately, I do have some problems with these Zigbee components, the Gira switches fall out of the network after about a day due to old firmware, and the Smoke/CO detector and wall plug only output an On/Off, while it also allows reading of measured values. are.

Now I was wondering, is there an option to link this to HA in a different way, for example with ZHA, so that I can also use it?

Or maybe you have a better idea for this?

I don’t use MQTT in my HA, so I’d rather not use that as an option.

thanks in advance

You likely cannot use both at the same time. Only one integration at a time can control the Zigbee Coordinator.

Each coordinator can only be used by one piece of software at a time. If you want to use ZHA as well as deCONZ (which I wouldn’t recommend) then you’d need a second coordinator.

do you recommend to choose other components (z-wave?) for the malfunctioning components, or to just use ZHA instead of the deCONZ add-on ?

Just remember Z-Wave requires a different coordinator, is world region specific, and generally more expensive than Zigbee.

I also use Z-Wave, mainly Smoke Detectors, that works very well since Z-WaveJS, so I understand that you need a different coordinator for each network, and I have one for both.

I personally use Z-Wave and have not used Zigbee devices. Since I am a Wi-Fi engineer I was concerned about RF interference between Z-Wave & Wi-Fi since they use the same frequencies…

Wifi band ZWave do not share any RF frequencies in common and thus dont generally interfere.

Zigbee on the other hand shares the 2.4 Ghz rf band an wifi will absolutely stomp all over a Zigbee network with similar frequency

The devices ‘falling off’ sounds likeba zigbee signal issue tbh and may not have to do wiyh what software you’re using.

Id rule that out before i started trying to buy stuff to fix it.

Zigbee SAYS it does not interfere due to its narrow channel width but…

ZigBee and Wi-Fi Channels

ZigBee and Wi-Fi channel numbers may seem similar, suggesting that they won’t overlap. Unfortunately, this is not the case.

2.4 GHz Wi-Fi Channels

2.4 GHz ZigBee Channels

Wi-Fi’s three non-overlapping channels (1, 6, and 11) use the exact same frequencies as ZigBee channels 11-22.

ZigBee channels 25-26 aren’t immune either, because they can be caught in Wi-Fi channel 11’s sideband lobe (see Sideband Lobes below). ZigBee channel 26 is usually relatively unaffected by Wi-Fi, but many ZigBee devices do not support it.

I even put the Gira/Insta wall switches next to the coordinator, and even then they fall out of the network, turns out to be due to outdated firmware, which is unfortunately no longer updated.

actually I had already resigned myself that they wouldn’t work well.
I ran into them again last week while looking for something else.

if there is a way to read the measurement data from the co/smoke detector and wall plug with the deCONZ, that would also be a solution.

Remember, in North America, only Wi-Fi channels 1, 6, & 11 are non overlapping.

That includes your neighbor Wi-Fi too. I have a neighbor on channel 7 which interferes with both 6 & 11 :frowning:

I do know of an expert who lived in the UK and now lives in New Zealand who prefers Zigbee over Z-Wave, He has programmed bindings for both and has several commercial customers using Zigbee.
